Built on the job

We run the shows. That’s why the tools work.

Gobo Studios is a DJ, lighting, and karaoke company that also ships software. Not as a side business — as the same business.

Every tool on this page started as a problem in a gym, a rink, or a bar on a Friday night, and got built because nothing on the market solved it the way the room needed it solved. Four programs. One account. All of them run our own events before they run yours.

The short version

Every one of these started as a bad night

Paper song slips get lost, and the singer who wrote one at 8pm asks about it four times before 9. A lighting rig that ignores the music looks like a lighting rig. A rental counter with 53 pairs of skates and no records can’t tell you which pair is overdue for a bearing service. Those are not theoretical problems. They are Friday.

So the fixes got written, then used at the next show, then rewritten because the first version was wrong in a way you only find out at 11pm with a room full of people.

That loop is the whole pitch. The tools are shaped by the room, and the room is better because of the tools.

  • KaraokeFlow runs our karaoke nights. The QR-code song request that two competitors now sell as a headline feature — we built ours to fix our own queue.
  • SceneRig drives our actual DMX rig: pars, wash bars, moving heads, the lot.
  • GearMaintain tracked the skate fleet at our own pop-up rink before it tracked anything else.
What we make

Four tools, one login

Your Gobo Studios account carries billing and sign-in for everything here. One password, one card on file, one place to change a plan.

KaraokeFlow

Shipping

Karaoke show management for KJs and venues. Guests scan a QR code and request from their phones. Fair rotation, kiosk display, and playback through VirtualDJ or the built-in player — using the library you already own.

Free tier, then $5 / $15 / $50 a month.

SceneRig

Not for sale yet

Beat-synced visuals and DMX lighting, driven by VirtualDJ. 19 generative scenes, a stackable FX chain, and live DMX out to the rig — all locked to the beat phase of whatever is playing.

In use at our shows.

GearMaintain

In production

Rental fleet check-out, check-in, and maintenance. Scan the tag, hand over the gear. The system knows when that item was last serviced and how long it has been out.

Running on our own fleet. Talk to us about a pilot.

VDJ REST API

Bundled

A VirtualDJ plugin that exposes the decks over HTTP. Read live deck state and control playback from any app on the machine, on macOS or Windows. No Pro licence required.

The plumbing under SceneRig and KaraokeFlow.

The wiring

One booth, one signal path

VirtualDJ knows what is playing, at what tempo, and how loud. That was the missing wire. The VDJ REST API plugin puts all of it on localhost:8082 as plain JSON, and everything else reads from there.

SceneRig polls it 20 times a second, interpolates the beat phase every frame, and pushes DMX to the rig and video to the screen off the same clock. KaraokeFlow uses it to load the next singer’s track into VirtualDJ with the singer’s name attached, and to apply the key change they asked for. Same plugin, two very different jobs.

Read the API notes

  1. Source

    VirtualDJ

Track, tempo, position, per-deck levels — the booth already knows all of it.

  2. Bridge

    VDJ REST API

Publishes it on localhost:8082 as plain JSON, and takes playback commands back.

  3. What reads it

    SceneRig and KaraokeFlow

Lights and video off the beat phase; queue and playback off the decks.

Honest status

What you can buy today, and what you can’t

Two of these are products. Two are tools that run our own operation and are not on sale yet. We would rather say so than take a deposit on a maybe.

Start free, or start a conversation

KaraokeFlow has a free tier and no card at signup. Take it home, load a hundred songs, see whether the rotation behaves. For SceneRig, GearMaintain, or the VirtualDJ plugin, send a note and tell us what you are running — we will tell you honestly whether it is ready for you.
